New Target Store Coming to Mebane, North Carolina

A major retail addition is coming to Mebane, North Carolina, with a new Target store set to anchor a large-scale mixed-use development. This project, approved by the Mebane City Council in late 2024, will bring retail, residential, and infrastructure improvements to the growing area.

A New Retail Hub for Mebane

Target will be the anchor tenant of a 300,000-square-foot retail space located at Trollingwood-Hawfields Road and Interstate 40/85. The development, led by Koury Corporation, will also include 645 apartments, 38 townhomes, and other commercial spaces.

Site Transformation Over the Years

Historically, the land was undeveloped with wooded areas and small water bodies. Satellite images from 2021 show an untouched landscape, while images from 2024 reveal extensive land clearing and grading, indicating active construction.

Traffic & Infrastructure Improvements

To support the new development, a traffic impact study was conducted. Based on its findings, the North Carolina Department of Transportation has planned several roadway upgrades:

  • Adding left and right turn lanes on Trollingwood-Hawfields Road.
  • Constructing a new “elbow road” to ease congestion.
  • All improvements will be funded by the developer.

Economic Impact & Future Outlook

The development is projected to generate $15 million in annual sales revenue, making it a significant economic boost for the area. While Target has confirmed its presence, the construction and opening timeline have yet to be announced.

With Mebane’s rapid growth, this development is expected to reshape the local landscape. As construction progresses, more details on store openings and additional tenants will emerge…
