Raleigh, N.C. – Led by a strong late-night performance in the 10,000, the Elon University outdoor track and field team completed a full weekend of action at the Raleigh Relays. The Friday night trio of Madison Synowiec, Mariana Martinez and Hannah Weber rewrote the Phoenix record book with three of the top eight times in program history in the 10,000.
TOP PERFORMANCES
- Madison Synowiec led the Elon distance trio in the 10,000 late Friday. She ran a personal best time of 33:51.52, second-best in program history. Mariana Martinez also ran a PR at 35:32.60, moving to seventh in school history. Hannah Weber followed at 35:45.78 for No. 8 in the Elon record book.
- On Saturday, Freshman Duna Viñals broke into the Elon top 10 list in the 400 hurdles with a time of 1:02.03. That time is seventh in school history.
- Another freshman, Isabella Johnson, worked her way into the top 10 in school history in discus Friday morning. She threw 146-feet-1 (44.52m) for a personal best.
OTHER NOTABLE EFFORTS
- Following Viñals in the 400 hurdles, Olivia Waymer (1:03.80), Mary Sollars (1:06.38) and Ja’mia Johnson (1:08.40) all set new personal best times.
- Sarah Petitjean set a new PR with a time of 2:13.41 in the 800, while Abby Beville recorded a season-best time of 2:13.77. Gabi Walker also had a PR in 2:15.72.
- In the 1,500, Petitjean again set a personal best time at 4:28.09. Quinn Smith (4:29.64) and Beville (4:33.18) both had season best performances.
- Mary Sollars recorded a PR in the 400 with a time of 59.16 seconds, as did Olivia Waymer at 60.65 seconds.
- Lizzie Lopez ran a new PR in the 100 hurdles at 14.89 seconds.
- Meghan Coyne had a personal best mark in hammer throw at 162-feet-2 (49.42m).
- Hannah Schonhoff cleared 5-7 (1.70m) in the high jump to set a new season best.
- Elon’s 400 relay team had a season-best time of 47.04 seconds.
- Caden Cerminara earned a bronze medal in pole vault, placing third by clearing 12-7.5 (3.85m).
