WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Last week, the North Carolina State Board of Education and the Department of Public Instruction sent a letter to Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools demanding corrective action for the approximately $16 million deficit in the district’s budget.
According to the letter, Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools submitted its most recent financial statement audit four months after the November 30, 2024, deadline.
When the audit was submitted, the State Board of Education said it showed a $17.7 million drop in unassigned fund balance, leaving a balance of $5.39 million, which represents 0.7% of the district’s total expenditures…
