This invasive bug is now in Reidsville, North Carolina agricultural officials say

REIDSVILLE, N.C. — North Carolina state agriculture officials confirmed the invasive spotted lanternfly is now in Reidsville, concentrated within a two-mile area.

The pest poses a serious threat to North Carolina’s wine and grape industries and can damage more than 100 types of plants, including roses and maple trees.

“This is a fast-spreading pest, and we’re working quickly to assess the situation,” said Dr. Bill Foote with the N.C. Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (NCDA&CS). “We’re asking the public to help us spot and report it.”…
