New details emerge after water main break in Reidsville last week

REIDSVILLE, N.C. — A major water main break in Reidsville last week left the entire city without water temporarily.

What happened

The incident began early on May 13 when power fluctuations at the water treatment plant caused a high service pump to shut down. The plant switched to backup power, but by then, a large water main had burst, draining over 2.8 million gallons, nearly two-thirds of the city’s daily water supply, in just over an hour.

Home and businesses in Reidsville began losing water around 3:30 a.m. Crews found the break on Park Lane by 4:30 a.m. and worked to repair about 14 feet of damaged pipe.

The city was under a boil water advisory until the next evening after water quality tests came back clear…
