Alamance County commissioners try to calm budget fears, explain tax increases

ALAMANCE COUNTY, N.C. (WGHP) — Hundreds of people showed up at the courthouse in Graham on Monday night to show the Alamance County Board of Commissioners they are against cuts to county services.

County Manager Heidi York explained that a single PowerPoint slide she showed in May ignited some of the furor, saying it was essentially what would have to happen if property taxes were not raised by 1.59 cents.

York said a 1.59-cent property tax increase would earn the city an additional $2.6 million annually, costing about $48 more a year for someone with a house valued at $265,000…
