Experts set new US beach umbrella guidelines to boost safety

GREENSBORO, N.C. — What beach trip would be complete without an umbrella? But how often do we stop to think about how safe that umbrella really is?

“It’s been documented that there are 4,000 people who end up in emergency rooms every single year as a result of beach umbrella accidents. It’s not uncommon,” explained Bill Schermerhorn, owner of beachBUB in Greensboro.
