Guilford County Schools student swaps textbooks for toolboxes in Guilford internship

GREENSBORO, N.C. — At first glance, the Guilford County Schools Bus Depot looks like it’s running through another busy summer day — tools buzzing, engines rumbling, and crews hard at work. But listen closely, and a different rhythm emerges. Students are turning wrenches and trading their textbooks for toolboxes, working right alongside the professionals.

Guilford County Schools launched its paid internship program in 2024 to give students hands-on experience and a head start in technical careers.
