Risk of thunderstorms in the Triad on Monday afternoon

PIEDMONT TRIAD, N.C. (WGHP) — A quiet start to our Monday with temperatures in the upper 60s and low 70s out the door. Afternoon high temperatures reach the upper-80s and low-90s.

The humidity will continue packing a punch this week with high moisture availability in the Piedmont Triad. The high moisture will provide the potential for scattered, slow moving, heavy rain producing thunderstorms Monday afternoon and evening.

For that reason, we’re under a slight risk for excessive rainfall with isolated to scattered flash flooding possible, especially in already saturated/water-logged areas.

A level 1 threat for severe weather is also in place for the Piedmont Triad, as a few thunderstorms this afternoon will be capable of producing damaging winds. The combination of damaging winds and soggy ground means there’s also a potential for downed trees and isolated power outages.

Tuesday and Wednesday bring temperatures in the low 70s in the morning with highs in the mid-80s. Skies will be mostly cloudy with scattered thunderstorms returning for the afternoon and evening. Isolated flash flooding remains possible as the already saturated ground combines with additional heavy rainfall from afternoon thunderstorms. The chance of rain is 60%.
