Howard Miller, Hekman Furniture to close operations, impacting nearly 200 jobs across Michigan and North Carolina

HIGH POINT, N.C. — he furniture industry has long been the beating heart of the Piedmont Triad — especially in High Point, famously known as the “Furniture Capital of the World.” But with modern pressures and new economic policies looming, the future of local manufacturing is growing increasingly uncertain.

Furniture company Howard Miller has announced it will shutter operations in 2026, impacting nearly 200 jobs across its subsidiaries inboth Michigan and it’s subsidiaries in Lexington and High Point. One of those subsidiaries, Hekman Furniture, will be among the locations closing.
