GUILFORD COUNTY, N.C. — The Robert G. Shaw Piedmont Triad Farmers Market will celebrate Watermelon Day on Thursday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., inviting the community to enjoy one of North Carolina’s favorite summertime staples.
Visitors can sample a variety of locally grown watermelons, meet North Carolina Watermelon Queen Elizabeth Steinlage, and speak directly with the farmers behind the state’s $48.4 million watermelon industry. North Carolina ranks fifth in the nation for watermelon production, a news release said.
