Heavy rains create dangerous water conditions in Rockingham County

MADISON, N.C. — Wednesday, the water at the Dan River in Madison was significantly calmer than it was on Monday when a person nearly drowned in the strong current.

According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, the river was about four feet deep on Monday. The water was also rushing more than twice as fast as it was Wednesday.
