GREENSBORO, N.C. (WGHP) — The NCDHHS has shared a timeline for their actions against a home offering unlicensed care after a man went missing.
Police have been searching for Larry Darnell Burton, 74, for over three weeks since he reportedly left what his family believed was a care home on Moody Street in Greensboro. The NCDHHS has said that this facility was operating without proper licensure and has now been shut down.
Timeline
- July 2: Burton was last seen around 10:30 p.m. He had also reportedly FaceTimed with his daughter earlier that day.
- July 3: Police are called around 7:15 a.m. about Burton being missing.
- July 9: The Division of Health Service Regulation Adult Care Licensure Section performed a “complaint inspection” at the Moody Street home, noting that there were six people in the house and that the operator was providing adult care services without a license, and confirmed that Burton was the seventh person in the home, also receiving care.
- July 10: DSHR ordered the operator to cease all operations.
Guilford County DSS conducted a follow-up visit and confirmed to the DHSR that the four people in the home who were being cared for have moved out of the home and no one else in the home is receiving care that requires a license.
Unlicensed Greensboro care facility man disappeared from shut down
In a letter obtained by FOX8, the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services formally urged the Guilford County District Attorney’s Office to pursue criminal prosecution against the facility for operating without a license and neglecting Burton.
