GREENSBORO, N.C. — The Greensboro City Council has officially proclaimed Sunday, July 27, through Saturday, August 2, as Heat Awareness Week, urging residents to take part in educational activities, preparedness efforts, and community engagement initiatives aimed at reducing the health impacts of extreme heat.
City officials emphasize the growing health risks associated with rising temperatures, particularly during the early summer months when the body is still acclimating. Heat-related illnesses such as heat exhaustion and heat stroke, as well as the worsening of cardiovascular, respiratory, and cerebrovascular conditions, are all potential risks.
“Anyone can be impacted by heat-related illness,” Latisha McNeil, director of the Community Safety Department said. “Reducing these health risks and advancing health equity requires community-wide awareness and proactive action.”…
