According to the National Weather Service, the Heat Advisory remains in place for the Raleigh area until 8 p.m. Friday. The more serious Extreme Heat Watch will begin Saturday morning, covering the Eastern Piedmont, Sandhills, and Coastal Plain. Forecasters expect dangerously hot conditions to persist through Sunday evening, with heat index values climbing as high as 112°F.
