WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — With extreme heat in the forecast for the Triad over the next several days, Winston-Salem officials are opening cooling centers across the city.
Officials say City of Winston-Salem Recreation Centers may be used as cooling centers during normal business hours. For those experiencing homelessness, emergency shelters will be open at the following locations:
- Dream Center- Open 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
- Bethesda Center- Day center is open until 5:00 p.m.
- The Dwelling/ City with Dwelling: 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Showers continue to run. Staff will be handing out water and other supplies for those in need throughout the day.
- Samaritan Ministries: Opens at 11:00 a.m. and ends at 1:00 p.m. and allows people to stay to cool off.
The Winston-Salem Transit Authority is also offering a fare-free bus service to help residents access the local cooling stations. The bus service will run from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m. until further notice…
