Heat index could reach 109 degrees in Triad on dangerously hot Monday

PIEDMONT TRIAD, N.C. (WGHP) — An Excessive Heat Warning is in effect until 8 p.m. for Alamance County and Chatham County. The heat index today could be at or above 110 degrees.

An Excessive Heat Advisory is in effect until 8 p.m. for Caswell, Davidson, Davie, Forsyth, Guilford, Montgomery, Randolph, Rockingham, and Rowan Counties. The heat index could be up to 109 degrees.

Dangerously hot conditions will continue for the first half of the work week as the heat dome over the eastern U.S. continues. We will have highs today in the mid-90s with heat indices in the triple digits. Most of the day, our skies will be partly cloudy. By this evening, there is a 25% chance of thunderstorms, especially in the western Piedmont.  Lows tonight will be in the mid-70s.

The heat continues through Wednesday with highs in the mid-90s and scant chances of rain during the day.

By Thursday, rain chances begin to bounce back thanks to an approaching cold front.  There will be a 50% chance of showers and thunderstorms. Highs are going to be closer to 90°, which marks the beginning of the end to this heatwave!

By Friday, the cold front will be to our south, and highs will be in the lower-80s with a 40% chance of lingering showers and thunderstorms.

High pressure from the Great Lakes is going to usher in refreshing weather for the upcoming weekend!  Aside from some morning showers on Saturday, the rest of the weekend will be partly cloudy.  The best news is that highs will be in the upper-70s!…
