Winston-Salem death investigation ruled act of self-defense

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (WGHP) — The investigation into the death of a 58-year-old man in Winston-Salem has been ruled as an act of self-defense, according to the Winston-Salem Police Department.

Background

At around 12:54 p.m. on May 31, officers came to an apartment on Timlic Avenue after being called to assist EMS.

At the scene, police found 58-year-old Fernando Rodriguez Mendoza dead inside the apartment.

Investigation

Investigators say that they determined Mendoza’s death was a homicide after working with the North Carolina Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
