Greensboro city leaders honor legendary WFMY News 2 Anchor Sandra Hughes

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Greensboro City Council honored legendary WFMY News 2 Anchor Sandra Hughes during Monday’s meeting.

Hughes joined WFMY News 2 in 1972 as a general assignment reporter and quickly made history. In 1974, she became the first African-American woman in the Piedmont to host a daily talk show, “Sandra and Friends.” She later co-hosted The Good Morning Show and anchored the 6 p.m. newscast.

Always focused on helping others and giving back, Hughes launched the “2 Those Who Care” community service initiative. She also created the Minority Broadcast Development Program to support young journalists of color…
