Guilford County Schools helps get students ‘future ready’

GREENSBORO, NC (WGHP) — There is lots of activity in the transportation garages for Guilford County Schools this time of year. At first glance, this appears to be just another busy day, but some of these employees are actually student interns trying to get an inside feel for their future career.

GCS offers paid internships in maintenance, transportation, school nutrition and logistics, and students get something they can’t in the classroom: real-life hands-on experience.

According to Renee Dow, Director of Operations for GCS, they’ve already taken the academic curriculum and they’re in the classrooms some have already. They have industry credentials and so now they get to take what they’ve learned in the classroom and apply it in their true workforce.”…
