Live Radar | Lingering flood threat as unsettle weather brings scattered storms to central NC

Not only are we experiencing the coolest August on record, but central North Carolina is also seeing one of the rainiest starts to the month.

The unsettled wet weather pattern will continue on Tuesday into Thursday as thunderstorms could soak the area each day. Most storms that develop will happen during the afternoon and evening hours, with a heavy rain risk that could create flooding, much like Monday.

The area could see 1-3 inches of rain with the heavier downpours and slow-moving storms. Given the already saturated surfaces, these totals could produce quick rises on area creeks and localized flooding. Ponding of water on roads is also likely.

Speaking of Monday, a new daily rainfall record was set at Raleigh Durham International Airport (RDU) on Monday with 2.34″ of rain at the airport, breaking the previous daily record of 2.11″ from 2001.
