Winston-Salem church holds prayer for schools amid $46 million budget crisis

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — A Winston-Salem church gathered Sunday to pray for the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools district as it faces a $46 million budget shortfall that could cost hundreds of jobs.

Union Baptist Church hosted the service, where Senior Pastor Bishop Sir Walter Mack said the challenges are weighing heavily on teachers, students, families and the community.

“I think what we did today in terms of having prayer, bringing the community together, letting people know that what they do matters and that children matter – is critical,” Mack said. “If we can keep that in our hearts, then even in the midst of this stressful time, children will know they really matter to this community.”…
