After a wet and cool start to August, summer is reminding us where August falls on the calendar. Another hot and muggy day across the Piedmont tomorrow with high temperatures near 94 and the heat index flirting with triple digits. The High Country will climb into the low 80s. Rain will also be hard to come by tomorrow for most of us, but don’t rule out a couple of stray storms across the WCCB Charlotte viewing area in typical summer fashion. By Tuesday, we cool back down to average as flow from the northeast ramps up. This also means rain chances will slowly rise as the week wears on. By Thursday, rain chances go from isolated to scattered, and could even reach widespread by the start of next weekend as a weak cold front approaches the area.
The other big story is the tropics as major Hurricane Erin continues to skirt by Puerto Rico. The storm is still expected to avoid a direct landfall anywhere. With that said, there will still be some impacts in coastal sections of the Carolinas. All east coast beaches from the Florida Keys to Maine can expect life-threatening rip currents and elevated surf. The area with the highest impacts in North Carolina will easily be the Outer Banks. Some beach erosion, localized coastal flooding, and even the potential for brief tropical storm conditions will be possible late Wednesday and early Thursday. Luckily no impacts back home in the Piedmont and High Country from this storm!
Tonight: A couple of storms. Low: 74°. Wind: Calm…
