GREENSBORO, NORTH CAROLINA – The Greensboro Science Center (GSC) is mourning the loss of Miso, a Himalayan red panda who had captured the hearts of staff and visitors since her arrival in 2023.
Miso’s Health Struggles
GSC explained that Miso had been receiving ongoing care for an adrenal disorder, similar to Addison’s Disease in dogs. The condition prevented her body from producing essential steroid hormones such as cortisol, which are vital for healthy function.
Despite continuous veterinary treatment, her condition worsened in recent weeks. On Thursday, following a sharp decline, caretakers made the compassionate decision to assist in her peaceful passing.
A Beloved Member of the GSC Family
Staff members described Miso as a spirited and affectionate red panda who quickly became a favorite among employees and guests.
“Miso, or ‘Mimi’ as we liked to call her, was the brightest little light,” said Advanced Animal Care Specialist Laura F. “She greeted us every time we walked into the room. She was so spunky, a bamboo fiend, and she taught me to keep pushing and never give up. She will be so missed by everyone.”
