Winston-Salem/Forsyth Schools audit finds millions in fiscal mismanagement

RALEIGH — The state auditor has released an audit report on Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools that uncovered several issues.

The Rapid Response Division of the state auditor’s office reviewed the financial situation of Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools (WS/FCS) after reports were made to the State Auditor’s Tipline regarding the district’s estimated $46 million budget deficit.

“Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools dug itself into a deep financial hole, and it’s going to take real discipline to climb out of it,” North Carolina Auditor Dave Boliek said in a press release. “Our schools need to be focused on teaching students.
