WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — A refreshing change is on the way for North Carolina residents this week, as cooler temperatures and lower humidity settle into the region following a strong cold front.
Canadian Air Mass Brings Fall-Like Weather
Meteorologists say a dip in the jet stream is allowing cooler, drier Canadian air to spill southward. The front moved across the state Monday, clearing out humidity and ushering in more comfortable conditions by Tuesday. High pressure will build over the East, keeping this early fall-like pattern locked in for several days.
First Day of School with Pleasant Weather
The timing of the cool-down coincides with the first day of school for several Piedmont Triad districts. Students began their week with morning lows in the 60s — and even some 50s in the mountains. Afternoon highs reached the low 80s under partly sunny skies, with noticeably lower humidity filtering in through the day.
Crisp Mornings and Comfortable Afternoons
By Tuesday morning, residents across the state can expect lows in the 50s to near 60 degrees, a significant shift from the recent heat. Highs will top out in the upper 70s, well below the seasonal average of 86. Mountain areas may even dip into the 40s, offering a true taste of fall.
The comfortable weather will linger through midweek, with dry conditions and cool mornings making sweaters and light jackets a necessity for early commuters.
Looking Ahead to the Weekend
Forecasters predict the cooler, dry air will hold through much of the week before moderating slightly by the weekend. Morning lows will stay in the 50s, while daytime highs gradually return to the upper 70s. Rain chances remain slim to none over the next seven days, ensuring extended stretches of sunshine.
For many residents, this “fake fall” offers a welcome preview of the season ahead — a break from summer’s heat and humidity, even if only temporary…
