Fantastic Friday, tracking few shower chances over holiday weekend

We’ve made it to August’s final Friday! Mother Nature has saved the best for last for us this afternoon as plentiful sunshine and low humidity usher temperatures into the mid-80s across the Piedmont and Foothills. Get out and enjoy the day – this is as good as it gets through the holiday weekend. Despite the passage of a cold front overnight, more clouds will build into our Saturday morning as a moisture-laden air mass pushes north from the Gulf. To be clear, this weekend won’t be anywhere close to a washout, but we’ll be dodging showers at times – especially on Sunday. The increasing rain chances and cloud cover paired with northeasterly winds will bring highs closer to 80° for the final two days of our Labor Day weekend.

The below-average temperatures continue into the holiday-shortened workweek as temperatures struggle to clear the 70s around the Metro on Tuesday. The mercury will slowly recover into the lower 80s on Wednesday and Thursday ahead of another cold front by the end of the week. It’s still too early to know for sure, but chances are increasing that the Queen City has already seen its last 90° day of the year.
