Teachers learn their fate as WS/FCS layoffs and demotions continue

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — What should have been a restful holiday weekend turned into days of uncertainty for dozens of Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools employees, including three East Forsyth High School teachers who learned Monday whether they still had jobs.

Alex Nolan and her boyfriend Jackson Northen are both alternatively licensed teachers-educators who have college degrees in a specific field and are working toward full teaching licenses. They spent the weekend bracing for layoff emails.

“I find a moment of solace doing a hobby of mine, but it’s always in the back of my head — you might not have a job next week,” Nolan said…
