Arrested: North Carolina Man Had Atleast Three Wives at the Same Time Without Divorces

DAVIDSON COUNTY, N.C. — Authorities say a North Carolina man has been charged with felony bigamy after investigators discovered he was married to at least three women at the same time.

Investigation Uncovered Multiple Marriages

The Davidson County Sheriff’s Office said the case centers on Harry Irvine Burdick Jr., a man in his 60s, who was arrested on August 22 and charged with two counts of felony bigamy.

The investigation began in April when deputies received a report that Burdick might have multiple wives. Detectives later confirmed that he held three marriage licenses with different women — one each in Lincoln, Davidson, and Guilford counties.

Officials said they were unable to locate divorce records for his first marriage before he entered into two additional unions.

Motives Linked to Money and Gain

In a news release, deputies said Burdick’s actions were motivated by “financial motivation and personal gain.”
