Greensboro dental facility ordered to close several rooms due to compliance issues like gas leaks, no emergency call system

GREENSBORO, N.C. (WGHP) — A portion of a dental surgery center in Greensboro, where a young child died, has been shut down after an inspection uncovered several issues.

According to an inspection report from the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services, the state found serious issues with a renovation project at the Valleygate Dental Surgery Center on Hickory Ridge Drive. Paperwork states that those renovations were completed in July, which is the same month Er’mias Mitchell, 2, died at the facility.

According to the report, the inspection took place on Sept. 4. Then, on Sept. 9, NCDHHS issued a cease and desist letter, ordering Valleygate’s three new procedure rooms and three new recovery bays to close until the state’s findings were addressed…
