Cheerwine Bottling Company sued for alleged disability discrimination, EEOC says

COLFAX, N.C. (WGHP) — The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission is suing an iconic North Carolina brand over allegations of disability discrimination.

According to a release from the EEOC, the commission is suing Piedmont Cheerwine Bottling Company on behalf of a former employee for allegedly discriminating against her, requiring her to undergo a medical examination and then firing her because her disability causes her to walk with a limp.

In response to a media inquiry, Cheerwine said, “Piedmont Cheerwine Bottling Company is an equal opportunity employer, and fully complies with all legal requirements, including those provided under the Americans with Disabilities Act. As a matter of policy, the company does not comment on legal matters.”…
