WS/FCS faces uphill battle amid $46 million shortfall, lawmakers show little interest in bailout

FORSYTH COUNTY, N.C. — The Winston-Salem/Forsyth County School District is still trying to recover from a $46 million budget shortfall, it seems lawmakers have little interest in bailing them out.

Hundreds of staff members have already lost their jobs, and educators are pleading with state lawmakers for financial help.

The Forsyth County Association of Educators recently met with legislators, asking for millions in funding to help cover the deficit. The group wants lawmakers to pass a mini budget that would provide $18 million to help retain employees…
