FORSYTH COUNTY, N.C. (WGHP) — An organization that’s helped keep people housed in Forsyth County has now shut down due to a lack of state and federal funding.
Positive Wellness Alliance first opened its doors 30 years ago to help people who were HIV positive. As the program expanded, they started serving people with long-term chronic illnesses, providing medical support, and ensuring people find housing or stay in their homes.
“The science has been pretty clear that if people have safe and secure housing, they are much more likely to adhere to a treatment plan, and the key is helping them to adhere to their treatment plan, making sure that they get to a physician and get to their doctor’s appointments, and making sure they have access to their medications. If you don’t have housing, those things become much more difficult,” said Executive Director of Positive Wellness Alliance, Elizabeth Mattfeld.…
