North Carolina Takes Flight with New GTCC Aviation Center, Bolstering State’s Aerospace Industry and Job Market

North Carolina’s skies are set to become even busier with the commencement of the new Aviation Center at Guilford Technical Community College. Governor Josh Stein was present to mark this significant occasion, positioning the state as a front-runner in aerospace innovation. As reported by the office of the Governor, Stein expressed pride in the state’s legacy and the prospect of its future, stating, “North Carolina is synonymous with aviation and aerospace innovation. We were the first in flight, and now, we are the future of flight.”

The Triad region’s burgeoning aerospace industry, already supporting over 15,000 jobs, will greatly benefit from the Aviation Center’s focus on skills and certifications aligned with industry needs. Stein aims to aggressively draw more high-wage aerospace positions to the area. “At this Aviation Center, students will gain the skills and real-world experience to succeed in the high-wage jobs the Triad is attracting,” Stein said as per the North Carolina Office of the Governor website, in an effort to quickly secure North Carolina’s place as an aerospace job hub.

This development follows the massive investment announcement from JetZero, which is investing over $4.7 billion in establishing a commercial airplane manufacturing facility in the state, an initiative expected to create roughly 14,500 jobs.
