Bird flu continues in N.C.: Backyard flocks test positive in three counties

A backyard flock in Rutherford County recently tested positive for bird flu, according to the North Carolina Department of Agriculture.

It is one of three confirmed cases of high path avian influenza in the state in the past 30 days. Union County, an hour outside of Charlotte, and Guilford County, which includes Greensboro, were the other two incident locations.

The health risk to humans is low, according to the Centers for Disease and Control and Prevention. No humans have contracted bird flu by eating poultry or poultry products, so it is not considered a food safety threat.
