Temporary Pause on Cat Intakes at Guilford County Animal Services After Feline Virus Cases in Local Neighborhoods

Guilford County Animal Services has temporarily stopped accepting cats and kittens until Sunday, November 9, 2025. This decision follows nine confirmed cases of feline panleukopenia virus (FPV). The affected cats came from Greensboro neighborhoods, including Spry Street, Darden Road, and Chadford Place. The pause is intended to limit the spread of the virus and protect animals at the shelter.

Feline panleukopenia is a viral disease that can be fatal, especially for kittens and unvaccinated cats. The virus spreads through contact with infected fluids or contaminated items, such as litterboxes. Symptoms include vomiting, diarrhea, fever, and sometimes sudden death.
