ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, N.C. — Rockingham County residents who rely on Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits could see disruptions next month due to the ongoing federal government shutdown, the department announced Monday.
The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (NCDHHS) and Rockingham County Department of Health and Human Services recently received a federal letter warning that November SNAP benefits may not be issued on the normal schedule or for the usual amount if the shutdown continues.
“Each month, hundreds of Rockingham County families rely on SNAP benefits to help put food on the table,” said Carye Dickerson, director of Rockingham County Social Services. “Any disruption to these benefits can place an additional burden on families with limited income or access to transportation. As soon as we were notified, our department collaborated with community partners to prepare a list of local resources, including food pantries that serve residents throughout the month.”…
