GUILFORD COUNTY, N.C. — Construction of the Katherine G. Johnson K-8 school in southeastern Guilford County could be postponed due to lower-than-expected enrollment projections, according to Guilford County Schools.
The school was originally slated to open in 2028 as part of the district’s ongoing capital improvement plan. Deputy Superintendent Julius Monk told the Guilford County Joint Capital/Facilities Committee on Wednesday that he would recommend pushing the construction schedule further back as the district continues to analyze enrollment trends, the district confirmed to WFMY News 2.
The Johnson K-8 school was planned to alleviate overcrowding and serve families in communities east of U.S. 29, including students currently zoned for Falkener Elementary and Hairston Middle.
