Asheboro police make 8 DWI arrests, seize guns, respond to burning Bible over the weekend

ASHEBORO, N.C. — Asheboro police arrested eight people on driving while impaired charges, seized three handguns, and responded to a small fire involving a burning Bible over the weekend, police said.

Police said five of the DWI arrests occurred in a single day. Several suspects were charged after crashes or traffic stops on WOW Road, Interstate 73, and South Church Street, with reported blood-alcohol levels ranging from 0.08 to 0.23. Some cases also involved open containers, a hit-and-run, and license violations.

In a separate case, officers and firefighters responded to a fire near the Food Lion on East Dixie Drive, where a Bible was found burning on a sidewalk. Witnesses told police a woman set it on fire before leaving the area into the woods. No one was located, and the investigation remains open…
