LIBERTY, N.C. — Japanese car manufacturer Toyota has officially opened a battery plant facility here in the Piedmont Triad.
The car giant held its grand opening in Liberty Wednesday morning to celebrate its all-new $13.9 billion facility. It’s Toyota’s eleventh U.S. plant and the company’s first and only battery plant outside of Japan.
The battery manufacturing facility will create up to 5,100 new jobs, according to a release. The 1,850-acere site will produce 30 Gwh annually. It’ll be Toyota’s main hub for making lithium-ion batteries for electrified cars…
