North Carolina walked into Winston-Salem on Saturday night and got beat 28-12 by Wake Forest. The Tar Heels are now 4-6, sitting at 2-4 in the ACC, and whatever momentum they built winning the last two games is gone.
This wasn’t close. UNC got inside Wake territory six times. They came away with four field goals from Rece Verhoff. Two other attempts got blocked. Zero touchdowns. Bill Belichick didn’t sugarcoat it after the game. “Obviously a disappointing game. Just not good enough in any area. Offense, defense, special teams. Coaching, playing. We just didn’t have a good night.”
The lone highlight came when Verhoff drilled a 57-yarder to close the first half, a career best and a UNC program record. Carolina still trailed 14-6 at the break. Wake Forest ran for 223 yards and piled up 414 total. UNC managed 257 yards total, only 56 on the ground.
