High Point City councilwoman nominated to fill state house seat, replacing Cecil Brockman

The Guilford County Democratic Party has nominated High Point City Councilwoman Amanda Cook to fill the State House seat previously held by Representative Cecil Brockman.

Councilwoman Cook, who serves in an at-large seat on the council, will complete the remainder of Brockman’s term, which runs through 2026.

Brockman resigned last month following charges of engaging in sex acts with a 15-year-old boy.

Police were called in to investigate the alleged crime after Brockman called 911, attempting to locate the teenager. The teen was later found and taken to a hospital, where he disclosed his relationship with Brockman to investigators.

As reported from documents obtained by ABC11 after Brockman’s arrest, police seized the alleged victim’s phone and found 14 videos of sexual acts. In two of them, the judge said Brockman’s face was recognizable…
