Trolls like to hide in the woods. That’s the first thing to know when you go troll hunting this fall in North Carolina. And there’s no better time. Seven giant wooden trolls have just made their permanent home in Raleigh, Charlotte, and High Point.
Created by Danish artist Thomas Dambo, over 170 of these whimsical, eco-friendly sculptures have shown up around the world, from the mountains of China to coastal Maine. Now, North Carolina has its own collection, and there’s even a record breaker in the mix. (Have you seen the world’s longest troll tail?) Together, they make up the largest installation of its kind in the country.
Creating the Trolls
So how did all these trolls end up in the rolling hills of North Carolina’s Piedmont ? Like any good fairy tale, there’s a touch of kismet.
A few years ago, the Dix Park Conservancy contacted Dambo to explore the possibility of bringing his art to Raleigh. Then Crescent Communities in Charlotte reached out with a similar request. Earlier this year, Visit High Point had the same idea. The stars aligned…
