On the evening of Monday, December 9, the Mebane City Council unanimously approved a proposal to establish a conditional zoning district on eight properties totaling 10.22 acres for a convenience store with gas pumps by the Nepalese Investment Group LLC. After first approving the rezoning of the 10.22 acres from Orange County R1 (rural residential) and office/research/manufacturing, the elected leaders approved the new Sheetz.
The project – which will bring a second Sheetz to the eastern side of Mebane – is located along Buckhorn Road on a site which would be three times larger than the Sheetz at Mebane Oaks Road. But this Sheetz – unlike the one along Mebane Oaks Road – would be designed to accommodate tractor-trailer traffic in addition to commuter and freeway traffic.
