Strong cold front to bring frigid temperatures Sunday in the Piedmont Triad

PIEDMONT TRIAD, N.C. (WGHP) — Mostly clear skies stick around this evening and temperatures fall through the 40s. A strong cold front moves through tonight which will usher in frigid air throughout the day Sunday.

The warmest we’ll be all day on Sunday will be in the morning and temperatures will drop all day with our lowest temperature happening Sunday night. The morning will start with temperatures in the upper 30s and by lunchtime we’ll start to drop below freezing. By Sunday evening, temperatures will be in the low 20s. If that isn’t cold enough for you, the winds will also be strong out of the northwest at 10 to 25 mph. Wind gusts up to 35 mph are possible. The wind will make our temperatures feel evening colder with feels-like temperatures in the 20s in the first half of the day and in the 10s by the second half of the day. Make sure you protect your pipes, your people, your pets and your plants!

A cold weather advisory will go into effect at 6 PM on Sunday and remain in effect until 9 AM on Monday. During that time, actual temperatures will be in the 10s and feels-like temperatures will be in the single digits. We’re also looking at about 24 hours below freezing which means protecting those pipes and leaving faucets dripping should be a priority Sunday night into Monday…
