District at West Market latest: Greensboro city officials say all displaced tenants have a place to stay

GREENSBORO, N.C. — All residents displaced after an apartment building on West Market Street was condemned now have a place to stay, according to the City of Greensboro.

Eric Chilton, the city’s strategic and crisis communications manager, said the Greensboro Housing Coalition worked with a local hotel to place displaced residents in rooms. As a result, the temporary Red Cross shelter that had been set up for residents is closing.

The building, The District at West Market, was condemned earlier this week after inspectors found severe electrical hazards, including damaged wiring and circuit breakers that posed fire and life-safety risks. Power was shut off, forcing nearly 200 residents to leave with little notice…
