17-year-old accused of shooting at officer in Winston-Salem; charged with attempted murder

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (WGHP) — A 17-year-old boy is facing an attempted murder charge after being accused of shooting at a Winston-Salem Police Department officer.

At around 1:15 p.m. on Tuesday, officers came to the 4800 block of Baux Mountain Road to “prevent and interrupt a gang motivated violent crime between opposing gangs.”

Police say that when the first officer arrived at the scene to establish a police presence, 17-year-old Deveric McMillian allegedly fired multiple shots toward an occupied, unmarked WSPD vehicle. The officer was not struck by the shots, but the vehicle was.

After the shooting, McMillian is accused of retreating into a home on Baux Mountain Road and barricading himself inside. SWAT responded to the scene and eventually took him into custody…
