Fender Bender: Why does insurance total cars when a bumper needs to be fixed?

GREENSBORO, N.C. — The fender bender. It happens in store parking lots, at stop lights, and even in the driveways of people that you know. Fixing a bumper, in my mind, costs a thousand dollars. But that is off—way off.

“The car manufacturers in our country and across the world have made vehicles safer. Thank goodness. I lost my little brother to an automobile accident. I want the cars to be safer, but repairing those cars is, is more expensive,” said Christopher Cook, Alliance Insurance Services.
