Randolph County Sheriff’s Office names juvenile portion of Guardian Project in honor of Liam King

RANDOLPH COUNTY, N.C. — The Randolph County Sheriff’s Office is announcing updates to its Guardian Project, a program aimed at protecting individuals who are at risk of wandering, including children with cognitive or developmental conditions.

The update comes months after the death of 7-year-old Liam King, a nonverbal child with autism who was reported missing in September 2025. After three days of searching, deputies found Liam’s body on Sept. 9 in a pond near the home where he was staying on Forest Hills Drive in Asheboro. Investigators said there was no indication of foul play.
