WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (WGHP) — A man is being charged in a shooting that left a 46-year-old man in critical condition on New Year’s Day.
At around 5:19 a.m. on New Year’s Day, officers came to the 300 block of East 28th Street in Winston-Salem after getting a report of a shooting. At the scene, police found a 46-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was taken to the hospital and is in critical condition.
On Monday, police announced that they took 35-year-old Michael Wheeler into custody on charges of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury, possession of a firearm by a felon, assault by pointing a firearm and discharging a firearm within city limits.
